The Incredible Hulk (2008)

Movie Synopsis

Dr Bruce Banner, pursued by those who would make his special powers into a weapon for their own benefits, seeks a cure to the condition that turns him into the Hulk.

Movie Review Summary

This film was quite a disappointment. It played too much to the cat-and-mouse type of film, with a potential love interest and one man’s hope to get better. The baddie, the real baddie that shows Bannerman for the man that he is, is only thrown into the battle right at the end. By then, you’ll probably just want the film to be other and left as a poignant type of romance between Bannerman and Betty Ross. For this genre of film this film falls way short of the excitement, adventure and tension that you would expect. It’s too methodical, too predictable and not very imaginative.

Couples Retreat (2009)

Movie Synopsis

When four close couples visit a tropical-island resort for a vacation, they don’t realize that couples relationship therapy and very little in the way of fun is what they’ve signed up to.

Movie Review Summary

This is one of those films whereby if you watch it without knowing what’s about it, you’ll probably see the better parts of it and enjoy it. It’s got a quality cast, a funny set-up, some definite tensions, is a little unique in its approach and has enough going on that it will capture the attention of those in a relationship. It’s downside is that it could have been so much more, but it hampered itself by playing to the juvenile side of comedy. If it had cut out the self-indulgence as well, this could have been a really good comedy.

I Could Never Be Your Woman (2007)

Movie Synopsis

When a single mother in her forties falls for a younger man will love be blind of the age difference, or will the younger women around him lead him astray.

Movie Review Summary

It’s hard to get excited about this one. It has a few laughs to it yes, but it’s been poorly conceived and as a result it leaves a funny taste in the mouth. It’s a shame watching some really talented people being poorly used. If they stripped the film back and made it more about Rosie’s and Izzie’s relationship this probably could have been a heart-touching film and a success. As it stands, I wouldn’t want to watch it again, it goes nowhere. I’m not even sure there’s continuity in the characters – does Adam play a teacher in the TV show and then by the end of it try and seduce a pupil as another character?? Just odd! If you want a rom-com there’s going to be far better ones out there. Don’t be pulled in by the talent on show, you’ll be disappointed.
