Movie Review Summary
This film posed some interesting questions before I watched it. Simon Pegg is very good at the leading man in a slobbish kind of character with other actors on low budget flicks – how would he transfer when doing a film with his humour alongside some of Hollywood’s stars? Well, the awkwardness is there, and that’s good because that’s effectively what the film is trying to get across.
In terms of comedy romances, this is an odd one. It ‘s certainly not your usual type of Hollywood comedy romance, maybe you could even call it Post Modern (after the name of Sidney’s own magazine). The romantic side is a little tortured – and does not get off to a good start when Sidney’s first love interest is a transsexual. The comedy element is typical Simon Pegg though and on the dirtier side of things.
Overall this is a funny concoction. It’s not a Devil Wears Prada, it tries to be darker and funnier than that, but as a recipe it’s not so good.
