Snow White and the Huntsman

Movie Synopsis

When a witch kills her father and becomes ruler of the land, Snow White must escape her if she wants to stay alive.

Movie Review Summary

This film had such promise with a good quality cast. Unfortunately, it lets itself down badly. The plot barely hangs together and there are just too many stupid parts to mention. Bob Hoskins is a bit part (as are all the dwarves, really) left with giving a few helpful pointers to the audience as to what’s happening when nobody else is listening to him. The lack of love/romance/jealousy I’ve already addressed – it makes the screenplay feel as if it’s written by a teenager. And alas, this was not Kirsten Stewart’s finest role. Is she Snow White material, really? Barely. Anne Hathaway yes, Kirsten no. One of the other bad parts about this film was the attack by the goodies on the castle. “I know, let’s just charge down a beach, in full daylight, and be picked off by catapults and archers…” How any of them survive is a miracle (or just Hollywood). Oh, and how does Snow White defeat the Evil Queen? It was so dark on the screen I barely saw, but I think she just stuck a knife into her. How long did it take to come up with that piece of genius?

You may still enjoy the film, don’t get me wrong, a fairytale is a fairytale. This is one I’ll skip next time it comes on though.
