When Tamara Drewe, who was once the town’s ugly duckling, returns to sell her late mother’s house her new found self causes a stir amongst the whole community, and with it a lot of admirers, both old and new.
Movie Review Summary
While this film is meant to be all about Tamara Drewe, in reality she is a smaller cog in the bigger picture of the story. Perhaps this is because Gemma Arterton, whilst a great actress, was not playing (or was not given) an actual femme fatale but just an attractive, confident character. Either way, the story works despite this because of the strength of the supporting cast (Tamsin Grieg as the forlorn and walked-over housewife is particularly good) and the fact that they are given characters with a real role to play in the high jinx that go on.
